Earlier this year Articulate released Storyline 3, the newest rendition of their elearning platform, and one that we at Kineo had been eagerly awaiting. At Kineo, we’re experts at working with various platforms to create the best possible elearning tools for our clients, and Articulate elearning is at the top of our list of favorites.

Of course, with the rollout of Articulate Storyline 3 there are some exciting new features to discuss… so here we go!

1. Mobile Player/Responsive View

One of the biggest, most noticeable new features of Storyline 3 over its predecessors is that the mobile player/responsive view has been greatly improved. Previously, the mobile version was more akin to a simply shrunken screen. Now, the mobile version adapts course content for any device and various screen sizes. What’s more is that the player automatically adjusts its controls intuitively, giving learners on the go the seamless and responsive experience they need to meet their objectives.

2. Built-in closed captioning option

In order for an elearning course to be truly effective it needs to be accessible to all members of its audience. Storyline 3 now supports closed captioning files to be uploaded in association with any video or audio snippets. This is helpful not only to learners with a hearing impairment, but also helps learners at the most inopportune times, such as forgetting their headphones, or unconventional/ inconvenient locations like on public transportation or in a noisy office.

3. Ease of Use

Hands down, one of the best new features of Storyline 3 is the ease with which you can control the style and aesthetic of your Articulate elearning course from a high-level, without having to dig through the entire course to make simple corrections. Now, course creators can use global fonts, or find and replace font feature, which will provide you with the ability to create a course with a seamless design. For example, if a decision is made late in the design process to change a particular font, designers won’t need to worry about going back through the entire course to find each and every instance of the font to change out individually - instead they can activate the find and replace feature and voila! - all instances of the old font will be found and, you guessed it, replaced.

4. Multimedia and interactive video

One of the most efficient ways to keep employees engaged in their Articulate elearning course is by utilising interactive video when appropriate, and Articulate has stepped up their game with Storyline 3 by enhancing their multimedia support features. Your employees will be able to, among other things, watch videos made up of role-playing scenarios which will allow them to make decisions that will affect the outcome and help them to gain valuable experience without necessitating actual role-playing. We’ll help develop videos that are not only engaging and informative, but also provide users with the ability - and freedom - to test their knowledge and make mistakes in a safe space.

5. Dial feature to change content

This rendition of Articulate elearning platform also incorporates features that make it much easier for learners to interact with their learning session - specifically the new dial feature. When developers are creating their content, they now have the ability to adjust the orientation and perspective of moving objects, which allows learners to view objects from various angles as they travel down a given path. They can also use the new trigger features to create even more interactivity within the course.
